World Oceans Day – the United Nations-recognized day of ocean action and celebration – is on June 8th.
As someone who cares about the ocean, we wanted to give you a rundown of what’s planned for this year, and invite you to participate.
For 2015, hundreds of celebrations are being planned to celebrate our ocean connections under the theme Healthy oceans, healthy planet. These celebrations can be anything from a huge event, to a note in a newsletter giving more information, or a special event at a place of business. We’re asking everyone to mark the day in some way! A major goal this year is to help people reduce their disposable plastic use, to keep the ocean and its animals safer and healthier.
A few ways you can celebrate World Oceans Day:
Hold a World Oceans Day event. Your celebration can be big or small, as long as you’re doing something to help.
Be sure to register your celebration on the website and share with the world.
Take the Better Bag Challenge, and ask others to join you. Don’t take any disposable plastic bags for a whole year! Or, if you already bring a better bag, cut microbeads or plastic utensils out of your life. Download the Organizer’s Guide and ask others to join you at your celebration.

Download new graphics and promotional materials for World Oceans Day, including French and Spanish versions.
You can keep in touch with World Oceans Day on Facebook and Twitter, or send the coordinator an email. They can send, or you can download from the website, their press release, logo, and images to promote the Better Bag Challenge. Please reach out if you’d like to work with The Ocean Project further!
